STIGA RM resumes construction of an apartment building in Kuldīga, investing EUR 5.5 million

STIGA RM, one of Latvia’s leading timber industry companies, will resume construction of a five-storey apartment building in Kuldīga this April. The 4,800 square metre building will house 65 apartments, mainly intended for the company’s employees and their families. The company will invest EUR 5.5 million in the welfare of its employees.
This project, initially announced in 2023, was postponed due to unfinished street and access road infrastructure issues. The situation has now been successfully resolved and a construction contract has been signed, enabling the project to proceed . The first groundworks are expected to start in the beginning of April to provide Stiga RM employees and their families with modern and comfortable housing by next autumn.
“Resuming construction of the new building is an important step toward providing quality housing for our employees and contributing to the development of the region. The start of the project was marked by a number of challenges which delayed its realisation. Thanks to constructive cooperation and active action by the Kuldīga Municipality, the initial infrastructure shortcomings have been resolved. I believe that the project’s future progress and outcome will be truly outstanding, going far beyond our most ambitious expectations,” says Andris Ramoliņš, owner and Chairman of the Board of STIGA RM.
The new building will be the first of its kind in Kuldīga since the late 1980s and the largest residential object under construction in the city, which is a significant investment in the development of Kuldīga, providing a modern and comfortable housing offer.
“The construction of the new apartment building is an important step in the development of Kuldīga Municipality. It will not only increase the availability of housing, but also contribute to the growth of the region and improve the quality of life. The apartments will be available to the company’s employees and their families, as well as to the wider community, thus reducing the pressure on the local housing market,” said Inese Astaševska, the Chairwoman of the Kuldīga Municipality Council.
About the apartment building project:
The 16 meters high residential building will be located in Kuldīga, at Lapegļu iela 1A. It will offer three-room, two-room, and studio apartments with balconies suitable for living with children. Parking and bicycle racks will also be provided for residents’ convenience, as well as separate storage and technical rooms in the basement. The building will meet the requirements of a nearly zero-energy building, and there will be a lift to ensure environmental accessibility. The project is being developed in collaboration with SIA Lauder Architects and construction engineering office SIA Forma 2.
Both existing employees and new professionals who want to work at Stiga RM in any field they are interested in, such as wood working, forest management or metalworking, will be offered the opportunity to get a rental apartment with a right to buy, or the right to use the apartment by gradually buying it back into their own ownership.
